Good news, Not so good news

Well the good news for last night was that Grace didn't lose any weight. The not so good news was that she didn't gain a single gram either according to the scale. This was very frustrating for us because she's been feeding wonderfully and we felt there should have been some change in her weight. So today we have been discussing the pros and cons of continuing with pure breast feeding versus doing bottle breast milk with supplementation feeds 4x per day and then 4 regular breast feeds. The neonatologist feels we should just stick to the breastfeeding route, but there are also merits to the supplementation route as well. If we continue on with the breastfeeding route, it may still take a while in the hospital before we see the gains we want; if we start supplementing, we could take her home as soon as she took to the bottle... However, if she gains weight tonight, they'll likely let us take her home. While she wouldn't be in the clear yet, she'd be on the gaining weight trend and her outcomes should be better. Our pediatrician would take over monitoring her weight and eating from that point on and we feel very confident in him.
So as of now, we're crossing our fingers that she'll show a weight gain tonight and they'll discharge us tomorrow. We can then focus on weight gain from home and we'll all be more rested. Stay tuned.....
