End of Week 22

Grow, grow, grow! That's all we know, know, know! Apparently Baby Lake is around 11 inches long now and weighs around a pound! It is more than evident as I find myself fitting well into all the expandable maternity pants with no belly band to help keep them up. This week I put on a pair of regular slacks, tried to zip them up, and was stopped cold in my tracks. The zipper didn't move an inch or even a fraction thereof!
Baby Lake got lots of attention this week as Doug and I were in the Bay Area for his Stanford work. We saw so many old friends and they were quick to give belly rubs, smiles, and hugs. The gals at my former clinic even threw me a small shower, including a blanket and card made by several former patients. We even ventured up to Napa Valley for a day; Baby Lake received his/her first introduction to the smells of wine and mustard growing the fields. Now on to week 23!

Easier Posting

There have been several people who have reported they weren't able to post their comments. I just went into the security section and added the anonymous feature, which allows one to post and sign in under anonymous if s/he doesn't have a gmail account. If we end up getting solicitations or spam, then I'll go back and change it. Otherwise, thank you for your patience while the kinks get worked out! Maleia

21, 21, 20, 20, 20, 20, 21!

Week 21 has come and gone and Baby Lake and Mommy continue to get bigger (one by the ounces and the other by pounds!). We have another doctor's appointment this week and therefore another listen to the pounding heartbeat and look at the scale! This past week was a tiring one for some reason, as Maleia found the need for more afternoon naps (not that it happened!). She over did it yesterday (just washing out the drawers to the new fridge and watching KU squeak by KSU) and started to feel light cramps near her ribcage. After drinking lots of water, focusing on deeper breaths, and slowing down, the light cramps went away and her energy returned. Lesson learned!
The books say the baby's sense of taste is fully developed by this week. How fortuitous since we are headed to Palo Alto later this week and therefore Napa Valley wineries for a day! Nothing could make me happier than to know we exposed our child to the wonderful tastes and smells of Napa valley in its first week of fully tasting and smelling.... And no, I'm not talking about the baby or my drinking wine; Napa is also known for fantastic mustards, cheeses, and other foods! Sheesh! Sauerkraut is also on the menu for Monday and Tuesday. Nothing but the best!

End of 20 Weeks... Yahoo!

Well, we're now officially 1/2 way to 40 weeks! We've had a good baby week with starting our Bradley classes (1 down, 9 to go), doing squats, cat and cow stretches, butterflies, relaxation techniques (Doug gets to give Maleia a massage for 5 minutes a day! Lucky guy!), belly breathing, and formally logging nutritional intake.
It has also been a week full of sideways glances at Maleia's belly, head nods, and smiles, as it is finally becoming apparent that she didn't just pack on some Christmas weight! She weighs about 7 pounds more than when she initially got pregnant (remember, she then lost 4 pounds the first trimester from the all-day nauseousness) and given her renewed appetite, more should be on the way. Especially given how she knows the baby likes ice cream, eggs, and waffles with peanut butter!
Baby Lake hit another milestone this week as s/he did a 'moonwalk' by walking from the left side of Maleia's belly over to the right in 5-6 steps! Now if there was only some way we could get a treadmill and a punching bag in there for the overnight hours; then Maleia could get more sleep! Don't kid yourself, though, she loves it!

End of Week 19....Again!

This week was quite a kick! In fact, it was full of lots of kicks and pushes and shoves as Baby Lake is apparently a fitness buff. S/he became a lot more active during the day and made him/herself well known, despite Maleia's activity. During what was supposed to be a relaxation pose at prenatal yoga, Baby Lake and Maleia played a quick game of tag. Baby Lake kicked hard, Maleia pushed back, and Baby Lake immediately returned the favor! Quite the sense of humor already!
