The big 7!!
Seven months old, 14 pounds big, and going strong. Grace’s personality is shining more and more this month. She has found the volume button when she’s cooing in the crib or playing by herself. She giggles more often with tickles, smiles, and games. And peek-a-boo has been officially voted “One the 10 best games ever.” She loves to move her arms with the ABC’s with her Dad and is still working on rolling over to her belly with her Mom. She has all the pieces she needs to roll over, but just needs to flex those hips in order to start! She is spending more time on her belly and pushing up tall with her arms. In sitting, she is becoming more balanced and can maintain it without the use of her hands for longer bouts of time. She still isn’t able to sit and bring things to her mouth, but that will come in the next month.
To our delight, Grace loves baby food purees. She is a fan of prunes, peas, carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes. She didn’t like avocado so much, but surely will grow into that much like her parents did! She is getting about ½ jar food and ½ home cooked purees and it has been much fun to make those for her.
Grace was able to meet more of the Rome clan during Thanksgiving this past month in Branson, Misery. I think, just like the rest of us, she was entertained. Occasionally she showed stranger anxiety, but she did rather well and especially delighted in her kid cousins. We took her to the Butterfly Palace and she watched butterflies flit and fly right past her. It was great to see how much more aware she is becoming of things around her.
We continue to ride the reflux roller coaster. There are days where she will nap beautifully and days like yesterday, where she didn’t nap more than 10 minutes on her own at any point. She started spitting up more and even directly prior to taking her next 3 hour bottle. She now has a persistent dry cough and shows agitation with spit up more. This past month we did a trial with Neocate formula (36 bucks a can) and it agitated her so badly, she started refusing to take the bottle. I took her to the pediatrician yesterday and he switched her to Prevacid. I am hopeful but cautious.
We are excited for our first Christmas with Grace. She has made the holiday even more special to us and we are delighting in watching her see things for the first time (Christmas tree, blinking lights, our brightly beaded Christmas stockings); the world takes on whole new meaning when looking at it through the eyes of a child. Merry Christmas!
