End of Week 27!

Well there went week 27! We'll call it the week of accumulation..... I continue to eat, eat, eat as the baby should now be about 2 pounds! And future Dad Doug drove all the way to Minneapolis to get the crib, changing table, drawer unit, and other necessary furniture. Between that trip and the shower from last weekend, I am amazed at the wonderful things we have already for Baby Lake! Lots and lots of things just waiting for the star performer!
Speaking of which, I was surprised to look at my belly and see it move when Baby Lake was kicking. Up until now I have only been able to feel it, but every once in a while I can see my shirt move.
This week I begin biweekly doctor visits as we transition into the 3rd trimester. Less than 3 months left to go. With time running down, I can't help but think, "Oh no, we're in trouble;" however, people quickly remind me that babies come into the world all the time without their rooms being ready, the crib put together, or the house in order. I suppose they're right!

End of 26 Weeks

Spring has sprung! And so has Maleia’s belly! This week was marked by the first baby shower in Maleia's hometown thrown by her sister Mindy! The amount of love and gifts given is remarkable and we continue to be astounded by the love and support we receive. We are lucky, lucky, lucky!
Maleia had her glucose test and another doctor appointment this week. Six more pounds gained in the last month and still a good healthy heartbeat! Now we begin doctor's appointments every two weeks! Bring on the 3rd trimester!

End of 25 Weeks

This week has been eye opening! Well, at least for the baby. The books say the baby now opens and closes its eyes, blinking often when sleeping. We're going to have to play some flashlight tag with the baby this week and see if we get a response! Baby Lake is supposedly heading into the 2 pound range this week as well! I'd venture to say it's more like 4 pounds with all the help from waffles with peanut butter and ice cream. We'll find out more as we go to another doctor's appointment this week......
It has become more apparent how much more time and space things now take! I can't sit so close to the steering wheel in the car anymore if I want to get in or out; all my clothing except my socks have shrunk (I still think we need to call in the Lowe's repairman on the dryer); and the neighborhood walk which used to take about 28 minutes is now 40! Don't even get either one of us started on the bank account! But it is all worth it and wonderful each and every day!

End of Week 24

Another week gone! Nothing starkly different happened this week, but the best is yet to come! The books say my uterus should be the size of a basketball by now... I find that to be perfect timing with the Big 12 basketball championship and March Madness starting up! I have noticed the baby's movement in two different places but at the same time! Perhaps s/he is practicing basketball moves, or a favorite cheer, or even the electric slide... Who knows, but it is really neat!

End of Week 23

I think I felt the baby have hiccups a few times this week. They were short, brief, but rhythmic and definitely caught my attention! It felt similar to being kicked, but in a steady pattern over and over! The books say mothers find this annoying, but it made me giggle a bit!
This week was Mommy and Daddy training in several ways. On Monday we completed our 4th of 10 two hour Bradley childbirth training classes. On Tuesday and Sunday nights, we worked on our registries (and we read consumer review books in preparation for that!). On Wednesday, Maleia headed down to Kansas City to stay with her 15 month old nephew Braden while Mindy and Adam took a much earned vacation. Changing diapers in lightning speed to accommodate a moving toddler, using distraction techniques to get in yet another spoonful of salmon, and keeping crockpot and iron cords out of reach were all lessons learned and will transfer over quite nicely to Baby Lake! (And no worries, Braden was never hurt by the crockpot or iron!) Quite the week for learning!
